My Other Ride is Your Mother

Last Saturday, my boys (Nate, Rith) and I were walking and bugging in the mall. A woman walked infront of us, looked back and said, “pervert.” I replied, “Bitch! What’s your problem?” But she kept on walking. We were like, “What was that all about?” Half an hour later, I looked at Nate’s T-shirt and realized why she called us that.

Illmatic Hits 10

Nas’ classic, Illmatic is revived with remixes and bonus tracks. Illmatic is the album that changed the game and introduced lyrical aesthetics to Hip Hop. Even 10 years later, Illmatic still speaks to Hip Hop fans and earns Nas the respect as the street lyricist. Illmatic tells 9 stories of what he feels and sees. Welcome to his “New York State of Mind” and “Life’s a Bitch.” After experiencing Illmatic, “It Ain’t Hard to Tell” why he is Stillmatic. Nas is one of the greatest Hip Hop poets of all time.

No Time

I have been turning down freelance design projects left and right. It’s not that I don’t need the extra money but I don’t have enough time. Obviously, Vassar is my top priority and retrofitting all the sites takes up all my time. Beside, I need time to learn new stuff and doing other things. I feel extremely bad turning down these freelances because they helped me get to where I am today. However, if I can’t put in 100% of my effort, I do not want to produce sloppy works. So thanks to those who have contacted me for freelance works. I truly appreciate it but please understand I didn’t turn you down because you are not paying enough or I am not interested on your projects. I simply don’t have enough time.

Twista – Kamikaze

Twista’s flow is amazingly fast and furious. He spits so fast but his word is still clear and understandable (unlike Bones, I couldn’t hear a word). Don’t know how he does it without stuttering. His latest album, Kamikaze, is filled with doses of adrenaline. Get Me sets off the album and gets your blood pumps up for the rest. Twista kicks off strong and fearless with killer lyrics. Kill Us All, follows up on the first, is the classic.

Of course, the collaboration with K. West on Slow Jamz and Overnight Celebrity is unreachable. So Sexy featuring R. Kelly is the speed of both worlds, where speedy Hip Hop meets speedy R&B. Lastly, I can’t wrap up this little review without mentioning the infamous Luda on Higher.

If the tracks aren’t listed here, don’t mean they are bad. I just don’t want to bore you to death with track-by-track review. The whole album rocks hard. So go get it if you want some hardcore and speedy Hip Hop.

New and Improved

The Graphics section has been revamped to be consistent with the rest of the site. The list of graphics also rearranged in different catagories with alphabetical order.

Both the Sites and the Motion section are recoded to truly separate content from preentation. I am spending way too much time tweaking this site. This should be it.

Cascading Style Sheets: Separating Content from Presentation

New to CSS? Friend of ED’s Cascading Style Sheets: Separating Content from Presentation, Second Edition, is a good starting point. The authors do a fantastic job of covering the basic foundation. After reading this book, you will be able to create CSS table-less layout in no time. Importantly, you will understand why it is important to separate content from presentations.

As a web designer who uses CSS/XHTML everyday, I find this book to be a valuable review. The last chapter, CSS Design Project, is most appealing to me. It’s inspiring to see how other designers apply different methods on coding their works. Although they do a great job of keeping their contributions short and sweet, beginners might have a hard time grabbing the concepts. A little more codes and further explanations would be great for both beginners and intermediate readers.

Cascading Style Sheets: Separating Content from Presentation is definitely recommended for designers who are still having a hard time getting over the CSS learning curve. If you have been using CSS for a while, this book will give you a solid idea of where your skill is at. I find it extremely useful to review what I have already know.

Evil Jokes

Exactly what I had predicted, William Hung’s Inspirational turns out to be a joke. An evil joke American has played on this Asian kid and the record sell proves it. His fame is up and he has made it to the “celebrity joke” list next to Vanilla Ice (at least Iceman made some money on his record sell). So what is Hung going to do now?

Here is another evil joke: Ice vs. Em in a rap battle. Eminem would rip Ice’s heart out and Ice would not stand a chance. Though, it would be an interesting battle if they go face to face. Ice would attack Em with his classic, “Yo! Em. Let’s get outta here. Word to your mother.”

More Changes

Inspired by The Big Book of Illustration Ideas, I spent the night drawing my ladies for this site. I am not an illustrator and I am a sucker when it comes to Adobe Illustrator. Thankfully, Flash’s pen tool rocks. It is intuitive and easy to use. Go ahead! Check out my ladies and me know what you think.

By the way, if you need some ideas for illustration, don’t forget to pick up The Big Book. The book is quite big and filled with tons of inspirational works. It is definitely worth it.

Sites Section Update

The screenshots for the Sites has been redesigned. Just wanted to give them some dimensions.
