In his 50s, he became a vegan because if he eats an egg he can’t trump for three days. His pussy lips and affection for Japanese toilet are hard to erase visually. He is charming nevertheless.
To see who will be affected, simply walk into any New York City library branch. See the students who literally cannot do their homework without our computers. See the parents and caregivers who are learning English and applying for jobs online to improve their circumstances. See the higher education students, independent researchers, and scholars who need our databases and online collections to further scholarship. Imagine how frustrated they will be, how demoralized, that they can no longer access what they need.
Thank you for standing up to two fucking sexual predators. You have restored decency and common sense. You have also sent a message to these powerful creeps. They can not do anything they fucking want to young girls and women. We will continue this fight until the fucking predator in the White House is completely removed.
Tôi thích đọc nên cũng cố gắng kèm cho mấy đứa nhỏ học đọc. Thằng Đạo bây giờ tự đọc tiếng Anh được rồi. Nó cũng rất chăm chỉ đọc những quyển sách nó thích. Tôi muốn dạy nó thêm tiếng Việt nhưng bây giờ phải kèm cho thằng Đán. Khác với thằng anh, thằng em không chịu tập trung nên tiếp thu rất chậm. Có chữ đọc đi đọc lại nhiều lần mà nó nhận không ra. Nhiều lúc cũng mất kiên nhẫn lắm nhưng thôi cũng rán.
Mỗi lần hai cha con ngồi lại đọc thì thằng Xuân cũng muốn ngồi vào lòng tôi để đọc. Chưa kịp đọc hết trang thì nó lại muốn lật qua trang khác. Cuối cùng cũng không đọc được gì cả. Đôi lúc cảm thấy có lỗi với tụi nó vì không thể chú ý hết đến mỗi đứa. Nhất là thằng con giữa. Cứ lo nó cảm thấy bị hất hủi nên cố gắng dành thời gian cho nó. Nó cũng khá nhạy cảm nên phải nhắc nhở nó là cho gia đình ai cũng yêu thương nó.
Thằng Đạo tuy thường gây gổ với thằng em nhưng cũng thân lắm. Mỗi lần cãi lộn tôi tách rời hai đứa ra không cho chơi chung thì cả hai đều năng nỉ xin được chơi chung. Khi tôi bảo thằng anh đọc cho thằng em nó cũng làm theo. Thấy anh em nó đọc chung với nhau tôi cũng cảm thấy an ủi.
Thằng cháu cùng lứa tuổi với thằng Đán được cưng chiều nên hơi bị nhõng nhẽo. Nói động một câu là khóc như mưa nên tôi đặt biệt danh cho nó là Wet Jackfruit (Mít Ướt).
Thằng Đán thì nói nhiều. Nói tùm lum tà la. Nói nhiều hơn cả ăn nên tôi đặt biệt danh cho nó là Old Story (Già Chuyện).
Thằng Đạo thì không nhõng nhẽo nhưng day như đỉa. Nó mà không được cái gì là nó than vắn thở dài cả ngày nên tôi đặt biệt danh cho nó là Tomato Wrinkle (Cà Nhằng).
The size of this book is intriguing. It’s small enough that you can carry around, but it’s also quite thick to fit in 500 iconic works including logos, posters, books, magazines, and type specimens. I find myself picking it up and flipping through the pages when I have a minute here and there just to get some inspiration. The timeline section is informative; however, I wish the text is a couple points bigger or the same size as the indexes. The small sans-serif typeface is way too hard on my old eyes.
Inspired by José Saramago, Ursula K. Le Guin started to blog. This form of writing provides her the sense of freedom. She can write about anything she wants. As a result, No Time to Spare is a collection of her blog posts ranging from living in her 80s to feminism to cat to literary to swearwords—Le roi est mort, vive le fucking roi. Reading this book encourages me to continue to blog into my 80s or when I leave this life. Blog on, Ms. Le Guin and thanks for the wise words on age:
Old age is for anybody who gets there. Warriors get old; sissies get old. In fact it’s likely that more sissies than warriors get old. Old age is for the healthy, the strong, the tough, the intrepid, the sick, the weak, the cowardly, the incompetent. people who run ten miles every morning before breakfast and people who live in a wheelchair. People who work the London Times crossword in ink in ten minutes and people who can’t quite remember who the president is just now. Old age is less a matter of fitness or courage than of luck equals longevity.
More on age, Ms. Le Guin writes:
Let age be age. Let your old relative or old friend be who they are. Denial serves nothing, no one, no purpose.
Quyển hướng dẫn thực hành về ngành public relations (“quá trình xây dựng các mối qua hệ”). Muốn được thành công trong nghề này tác giả nhấn mạnh sự quan trọng của đọc và viết, đặt biệt là “keep calm and write blog.” Cách viết của hai tác giả trẻ này cũng rất thụ vị nhất là những câu chơi vào những từ ngữ Anh. Chẳng hạn như: “Nếu bạn muốn ‘on the top’, agency là cách tốt nhất để đi”. Nếu cô nào muốn ‘on the top’ tôi, không cần phải qua agency. Tôi luôn xung phong “at the bottom”. Đùa một chút thôi nhưng nên cẩn thận khi dùng những từ ngữ như vậy tránh bị hiểu lầm.
Visualgui now has an actual logo. What is the visual pun behind it? I wish I had one. The logo is made up of nine squares and letters set in Futura. I just like grid and want a simple mark. It has the potential to be visually striking with various colors, but it is just 9 black squares. I am just going to roll with it and not overthink about it too much.
I also featured David Ross’s Khooster, a December’s Font of the Month. I wanted to see how an uncial script is used for Vietnamese. I picked out one of my favorite lines from Trịnh Công Sơn’s lyrics: “Chìm dưới đất kia một người sống thiên thu.” It’s loosely translated as “Sunken underneath the ground is a person who lives forever.” This is how I want my epitaph to be written and set.
I also freshened up I Love Ngọc Lan a bit. The text face is Vollkorn, designed by Friedrich Althausen. Headings are set in Paytone One, designed by Vernon Adams. The homepage featured a video Ngọc Lan recorded in 1993. It’s a perfect fit for the winter holiday season.
Elsewhere, Huge is redesigned. It’s a striking design and I love the huge typeface. That’s all I got for now.
I made a few updates to this blog, my Vietnamese Typography book, and my portfolio.
For this blog, the body text is now set in Ten Oldstyle, a Robert Slimbach latest typeface. In addition to being a beautiful book face, Ten Oldstyle has impeccable diacritics for Vietnamese. I simply can’t pass up the opportunity to put this typeface to work. For a better reading experience on screens, I use medium weight instead of normal.
For Vietnamese Typography, I revised the page on “Type Recommendations.” When I published this book, there were only a handful of typefaces that support Vietnamese. At least eight of the typefaces I recommend, designed by Robert Slimbach. Now support for Vietnamese diacritics is growing, I want to add new typefaces to the list. To make room for other designers, I grouped all the typefaces from one designer. For instance, I chose Acumin as a Slimbach sans serif and I encourage readers to check out Myriad and Pelago.
For my portfolio, I added a thumbnail to each project instead of just listing the text to entice visitors a bit. That’s pretty much all I have for now.
