Grilling Speeds Aging

Alisa Bowman’s “Grill, Interrupted“:

Researchers have found that some of the most common cooking methods–grilling, frying, and microwaving–and the way we process some of our favorite foods (lunch meats, hotdogs, potato chips) react with sugars and fats in those edibles to create destructive compounds called advanced glycation end products (AGEs). These molecular pests can shift our aging process into fifth gear.

Mariah Carey – E=MC2

Mariah Carey’s new album E=MC2 uses the same formula from her big success The Emancipation of Mimi: party first; pray later. Although the same ingredients were applied, E=MC2 sounds more generic than her previous work.

The album kicks off with a club-friendly “Migrate,” a Jermaine Dupri production, in which her voice and guest appearance T-Pain’s were digitally distorted. Both of their vocals are equally annoying. In addition to JD, she also brings in hitmakers like Swiss Beatz and Scott Storch on board to assist with the production, yet what the album is lacking is octave-grabbing Carey. “I Stay In Love” sounds robotic until near the end where Carey battles out with Carey on the simultaneous low and high vocals.

Like her previous effort, Carey likes to crossover to give her music more flavors. On here, her collaboration with dope-rapper Young Jeezy is much more effective than with reggae-crooner Damian Marley. Jeezy actually puts his crack tales aside and offers Carey some words of advice as she deals with the “Side Effect” her ex-husband left her with.

After all the bumps and grinds and dramas, Carey closes out the album with “I Wish You Well,” in which she flights her high range over the accompanying piano with a gospel choir backing her up. Still E=MC2 couldn’t hold up to Mimi, but more like leftover from Mimi.

Entertainment Weekly Vs. Kanye West

Chris Willman’s review of “Kanye West’s Glow in the Dark Tour“:

When 2001: A Space Odyssey came out, it was famously advertised as ”the ultimate trip.” For his headlining chunk of the Glow in the Dark Tour, Kanye West also takes fans on a galactic voyage, folding his hits into a wacked-out space opera that’s the ultimate ego trip.

Kanye fires back on his blog:

If you can’t have fun and lose yourself at this tour it’s a good chance you’re a very miserable person. I actually feel sorry for you guys. Your job forces you to not have fun anymore. Grab a drink, holla at some nice girls, and party bitch!! You don’t know shit about passion and art. You’ll never gain credibility at this rate. You’re fucking trash! I make art.

Put On” (Ye’s verse is so damn annoying with the digital manipulation.)

Stairway to Weight Loss

In three months I have lost almost twenty pounds thank to the stairways at work. My office is located on the fourth of the six-floor building. When I first started my job, I noticed that most people take the elevators more than the steps. Since the steps and the elevators are opposite from each other, the steps are always less busy. As a result, I use my feet more than my finger (to press the elevator button). Then one day I realized that why not use the stairway to exercise? This is something I have never tried before. Little did I know it turned into my exercise routine (at least for now).

Since not too many people uses the stairway, I was able to do what I have to do without people thinking there is some nutcase running up and down the building. At two o’clock each day, I would run up and down the building three times or about 525 steps both ways. The first round I run every step, starting from the top to bottom. When I run down the steps I could feel the fat drops in my gut. Running up requires more strength so I have to stretch when I reach the top. The second round I skip every other step when running up. The third round I alternate between the two. Just three rounds and twenty minutes, I sweat like a pig afterward.

Running steps not only helping me loose weight, but also helping me to stay awake after lunch. Usually by one o’clock I couldn’t stay awake. When people see me, they thought that the wedding is stressing me thin. I just nod and smile. So the stairway does work.

Hai Le’s MS Bike Ride

Our man HmL has signed up for the Multiple Sclerosis ride again this year. He will challenge himself by “riding 140 miles over 2 days.” By helping him reaching his goal, you’ll also help “to not only support research for tomorrow, but also to provide important programs and services which address the challenges of people living with MS today.” Donate whatever you could.
