Transgender Beat Homophobe

Danica Roem who is a transgender has defeated Bob Marshall who referred to himself as a chief homophobe for the Virginia House of Delegates. This historic win is a proof that Virginia embraces diversity and inclusion. Straight, gay, transgender, black, white, Hispanic, Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Muslim and whoever you are, as long as you appreciate and respect diversity, you will be welcoming to Virginia. We have demonstrated that we can stand up to hatred and bigotry. I am proud to be a Virginian.

An Ignorant Take on iPhone X

I went to the Apple store and spent about twenty minutes with the new iPhone X. It feels nice and looks good, but it is worth $1,000 or more for new features such as Face ID, Animoji, and camera? Not for me.

I don’t care about Face ID. In fact, I might not feel comfortable scanning it every time I want to access my phone. I don’t care about Animoji. It looks childish. The camera is impressive, but it is not worth the price for me.

The display is not all screen as Apple has claimed. That notch stands out like a sore thumb on landscape mode. It makes webpages with full-browser background color look jarring. I am not going to change our codes to accommodate Apple’s fuckup.

As far as the user experience, iOS 11 isn’t too exciting, if not boring; therefore, I am not regret switching to the Pixel 2. Google has come a long way with its Android design. I have using the Pixel 2 for two weeks and I am happy with it.

For me, it came down to the price. I paid $550 for the Pixel 2. iPhone X costs almost double. Even though I could afford it, it just seems to be a huge waste. So the iPhone X is not for me; therefore, I settled for the next best smartphone. If you can drop a grant for a smartphone then iPhone X is for you. What you are paying for is the brand not the practicality.

Resist

By electing Ralph Northam for governor, Virginia stands up to Trump. Ed Gillespie is a loser tonight and Trump has already thrown his ass under the bus. Sorry Ed, but you know the consequence when you sided with a hater who embraces white supremacists. Virginia is for lovers, not haters.

Gillespie Has Issues

Ed Gillespie will not be good for Virginia. He vows to defund Planned Parenthood. He is weak on gun control because he is backed by the NRA. He would cut after-school funding. He supports gerrymandering. He stands behind Trump. He has too many issues that are bad for Virginia. Tomorrow is the time to elect Dr. Ralph Northam for governor, Justin Fairfax for lieutenant governor, and reelect Attorney General Mark Herring.

Pamela Paul: My Life with Bob

Pamela Paul obviously loves Bob. She embraces him, holds him, caresses him, talks about him, and spends her entire life with him. Bob turns out not to be a guy, but a book of books. My Life with Bob is a funny, witty, and brainy memoir of a book lover. Paul read whenever she could when she was a kid as well as when she had her own kids. Books have been part of her life and Bob, which is a list of books with just date, author, and title, reveals the type of person she is through the books she had read. Inspired by Paul’s Bob, I now have my own Bob: Blog of Books.

Gillespie-mandering

David Daley on Gillespie-mander:

And Ed Gillespie, who could well be elected Virginia governor on Tuesday, is directly responsible for today’s gerrymandering-on-steroids. Gillespie chaired the powerful Republican State Leadership Committee in 2010 and helped design, execute and raise tens of millions of dollars for the Redistricting Majority Project. It had the apt acronym of REDMAP. This is a closely divided country, yet all political power in Washington, and in 69 of 99 state legislative chambers, rests with the Republicans.

Gillespie can’t win Virginia.

Jaime Lowe: Mental

In her poignant memoir of living with bipolar disorder, Lowe gives readers a glimpse inside her head. She writes about her struggle with mental illness and her manic depression. She writes about her experience with lithium and Depakote. She writes to find peace and stability. She writes with force, rhythm, and empathy. Any politician who seeks to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and disregard mental health coverage should read this book. It’s eye-opening.

Lost in Intonation

Đán: Daddy, I want fucking thang.
Dad: What do you want?
Đán: I want you to swing me with your legs.
Dad: You mean “Bắc kim thang?”
Đán: Yes.

Oh boy, I almost got a heart attack there.
