Took the kids to IHOP around 10:30am. Despite many tables were empty, the hostess asked us to wait for five minutes. Another group of Spanish folks came in and the hostess told them the same thing. Then an old white man walked right in. When the hostess told him to wait, he asked, “Why do I need to wait when there are tables available?” The hostess didn’t stop him. He just sat himself down at an empty table and we just had to wait for our turn. I didn’t complain or anything. The hostess who spoke with an accent appeared to be new on the job and didn’t seem to know what to do.

In the encore of his Netflix special, Gervais shared that he and his brother have one rule: “If you think of something funny, you gotta say it. Win, lose, or draw.” This philosophy worked out well for him. He joked about letting kids die, getting raped by satin, rubbing nuts on people with allergy, becoming old, watching his testicles floating, and tweeting back to his haters. Gervais packed so many great contents into one hour. You’ll either laugh or be offended the whole way through. I am the former.

In less than two months of the recent redesign, I am releasing the forth iteration of this blog. Most elements, including the logo, the typefaces, and the brand colors, stay the same. The drastic different is the new grid layout. I am still experimenting with CSS Grid. Mad kudos to Jen Simmons (I can’t wait to see her new site), Rachel Andrew , and Chen Hui Jing for paving the way for making web layout with grids.

For colors, I am playing around with some random, subtle colors to jazz the design up a bit. Hit refresh and you’ll see a different color background. I’ll add more in the future.

In the previous iteration, I liked the masking effect I did with the logo, but it felt steal after a while, especially when I didn’t have things that I really liked to promote. As a result, I just want to get back to the constant logo.

As for WordPress, it works the way I wanted for this blog. I deliberately keep the theme bare bone so I can make quick changes whenever I wanted to. I spent a couple of hours last night whipping up this theme. I hope that the Gutenberg project, which will be implemented into WordPress core in the future, won’t affect my design. Here’s yet another intriguing Gutenberg critic.

In the footer of this blog, I brought back a blogroll to sites I still read. I hope to see more people writing on their own site instead on Facebook, Twitter, Medium, or third-party platforms. My Feedly has lots more subscriptions, but I only link to blogs that are updated frequently. I hope to add more from time to time.

Also in the footer, I added a support column. After listening to how John Gruber and Jason Kottke got their readers to support their blogs, I wanted to give it a shot. Chiều Chủ Nhật đưa Đạo và Đán đi học võ. Đến sớm trước 15 phút nên ngồi xem hai anh em nó đấu với một đứa nhỏ khác. Thằng nầy không phải bạn học võ cùng lớp. Cũng chẵng quen biết. Nó cao lớn con hơn thằng Đạo. Đạo và Đán cùng phe nhưng vì yếu và nhỏ con hơn nên bị thằng kia vật xuống mấy tấm đệm. Thầy cũng ngồi đó nhưng đang đọc báo nên không để ý. Tôi cũng theo dõi nhưng không lên tiếng. Hai thằng này học võ đã sáu tháng rồi mà vẫn chưa áp dụng được để tự vệ gì cả.

Sau giờ học tôi đưa chúng đi ăn với đứa bạn Mĩ lúc trước cùng làm ở trường đại học Vassar. Nó cùng gia đình đi Washignton DC để tham dự biểu tình về luật lệ súng ống. Lúc ra Eden ăn tối hai thằng nhóc nói lia nói lịa. Đạo thì nói về lịch sử chiến tranh thế giới thứ hai. Còn Đán thì tò mò hỏi “Ông thở được không vì lỗ mũi của ông thẳng quá.” Rồi lại hỏi, “Ông bơi được không vì lỗ mũi cũng ông dài quá.” Rồi lại hỏi, “Tại sao râu và tóc của ông trắng hết vậy?” Thằng bạn Mĩ trắng trả lời cũng ná thở.

Lúc ăn xong chuẩn bị chia tay, thằng bạn cười và khen, “Hai thằng con của mầy hiếu kỳ và thẳng thắn lắm.” Tôi cũng trả lời, “Tại mình quen biết quá rồi nên tao cũng không ngại.” Thật sự tôi cũng không biết tính tình của tụi nó được như vậy bao lâu. Nhiều lúc gặp mấy đứa con của bạn bè ở tuổi 11 hoặc 12 chúng nó thấy tôi cũng chẳng chào hỏi. Đợi ba mẹ nhắc nhở chúng nó mới mở miệng. Thế rồi hỏi nó câu gì thì nó trả lời câu đó chứ không hề nói năng gì thêm cả.

Ở tuổi này chúng nó rất hoạt bát và dễ dàng làm quen với bất cứ lứa tuổi nào. Già bé gì cũng được cả. Hy vọng rằng những đức tính đó sẽ không thay đổi. Đừng giống cha nó vừa rụt rè vừa ngượng ngịu trong xã giao.

I haven’t followed John Gruber’s “The Talk Show” for a while. I am no longer interested in Apple products and I can’t keep up with each two-hour episodes. This one with Jason Kottke is different. They talked about the blog in its early days. Both John and Jason are doing quite well with the blogs. They also talked about redesigning Daring Fireball, which doesn’t seem to happen anytime soon. I enjoyed the conversation.

So Stormy says she and Trump had sex only once. I guess if you want the guy to screw you repeatedly, you have to be one of his voters.

I have never agreed with Ann Coulter except for this one. I wish more Republican leaders could be as strong as she.

Chủ Nhật chợt thức giấc lúc 4:45 sáng. Định ngủ lại nhưng mê đọc cho hết quyển sách. Đến sáng đầu óc nặng nề còn thân thể rã rời. Đến lúc tụi nhỏ dậy là chịu hết nỗi. Thế là cả ngày lừ đừ như người mất hồn. Ngày xưa thức luyện phim chưởng sáng đêm ngày nầy qua ngày nọ không sao. Ngày nay thức sớm đọc sách cũng tê tái cả người.

Mấy hôm nay thèm ăn phở bò và uống bia nên chân bị tê tê. Giờ phải nạp dấm táo vô để chữa gout. Cuộc đời thật khốn nạn. Ngày xưa uống gin và tonic ngọt lịm đã khát. Ngày nay chỉ uống dấm táo chua bỏ mẹ. Mà không uống thì khỏi đi luôn.

Gần đây lười nên ăn ở ngoài nhiều. Hai thằng con lớn hết ăn Chinese buffet thì ăn sushi buffet. Hết ăn phở thì ăn dim sum. Hết ăn mì Korean thì ăn mì Nhật. Một tuần ăn ở ngoài hai hoặc ba lần. Tụi nó thì ăn ngon lành. Còn mình thì vừa ăn vừa trông thằng nhỏ. Ăn vội ăn vàng. Khi chúng nó ăn không hết thì mình phải ăn đồ dư. Ngày xưa ăn bao nhiêu tiêu hết bấy nhiêu. Ngày nay ăn bao nhiêu vẫn còn đọng lại bấy nhiêu. Tôi sắp theo gót Quang Lê rồi.

Hồi còn trung học xin được việc làm ở tiệm cho mướng phim Video Update cũng chỉ để mượn phim porn về xem. Sợ bị mẹ khám phá nên xem chui xem nhủi vậy mà phê. Ngày nay chỉ cần mở internet lên là có vậy mà chẳng xi-nhê gì cả. Cũng không lạ lắm vì bây giờ thèm đồ thật hơn đồ giả.

Viết chơi cho vui thôi. Viết bậy bạ nữa là không còn gì cả mà mơ.
