Đêm qua mười một giờ mới đi ngủ và sáng nay sáu giờ rưỡi phải dậy nên Đán cằn nhằn không chịu ăn súp tàu hủ mẹ nấu. Hai mẹ con cự nhau và mẹ cấm không cho ăn sáng luôn. Lo nó bị đói nên tôi mở phone ra order gói thức (wake-up wrap của Dunkin Donuts). Trước khi ra khỏi nhà vợ cảnh cáo không được mua gì cho nó ăn nhưng đã mua rồi.

Lúc đưa hai thằng đi camp, tôi hỏi Đán, “Con giữ bí mật được không”? Nó hỏi, “Bí mật gì”? Tôi nói rằng tôi mua cái gói thức cho nó và chỉ ghé qua lấy thôi nhưng nó không chịu. Nó không muốn lừa dối mẹ. Tôi nói với nó ba đã mua rồi con không ăn thì con đem theo chừng nào thấy đói thì ăn. Nó bỏ vào cập và không ăn.

Mãn khoá mẫu giáo vừa rồi, Đán được cô giáo công nhận là học trò thật thà trong lớp. Giờ tôi đã chứng kiến tận mắt tính tình thật thà của nó. Vậy là tốt lắm rồi. Hy vọng rằng lúc nào nó cũng sẽ như thế.

Sáu giờ rưỡi sáng dậy, chạy nửa mile, đi nửa mile. Về dựng đầu hai thằng lớn dậy ăn điểm tâm để đi camp. Bảy giờ rưỡi sáng dựng đầu thằng nhóc dậy. Trước khi đến daycare phải ghé qua Dunkin’ Donuts cho nó ăn donut uống sữa.

Đến chỗ làm trước mười giờ. Mở laptop, pha ly cà phê. Một monitor chiếu World Cup còn một monitor mở Illustrator. Tưởng đâu mùa hè đỡ bận bịu được đi quán bar xem đá banh. Đâu ngờ bị một lượt bốn projects cùng lúc. Có một công việc quan trọng (liên quan đến tiền bạc) nên phải bù đầu.

Đến trưa đi hâm cơm rồi trở về phòng làm việc vừa ăn vừa xem “The Break with Michelle Wolf” để giải trí được nữa tiếng. Xong đi bộ đến thư viện trả sách và tìm sách mới. Quây về làm việc và xem World Cup tiếp. Portugal và Iran chơi xấu nhưng bây giờ có video rồi sao mà gian lận được. Đá banh mà có video dường như mất đi bớt thú vui.

Bốn giờ rưỡi chiều đến đón thằng Xuân về. Ăn vội chút cơm lại đưa hai thằng lớn với thằng cháu đi học tiếng Việt ngày đầu tiên từ bảy giờ rưỡi đến chín giờ rưỡi. Về đến nhà mười giờ. Bảo thằng Đạo làm bài tập vì ngày mai không đủ thời giờ. Ngài mai sau khi camp còn phải học bơi từ năm giờ đến sáu giờ rồi phải đi học tiếng Việt.

Thấy cái thời khóa biểu mà muốn nghẹt thở. Cũng may là tuần sau đi vacation rồi. Không biết có thư giản được không vì công việc khá nhiều. Tôi có nhiều dự án cá nhân muốn làm nhưng chắc phải tạm gác lại. Mấy hôm nay thiếu ngủ bị nhức đầu như điên. Sáng Chủ Nhật vừa rồi ngồi dậy không nổi. Nằm ôm đầu đến trưa vẫn không hết. Túc quá chóng cự đi cắt cỏ. Nóng và mệt nên quên đi cái đầu đang bị đau. Thôi đi ngủ sớm không phí sức nữa.

We witnessed that when Argentina lost its first goal to Croatia. The Argentina’s players were disoriented. As a result, Argentina lost two more goals. In contrast, Germany stayed focus even one of its player received a red card. Playing 10 against Sweden’s 11 players, Germany managed to score another goal at the last minute of the game. Soccer is about forgetting the past mistakes and looking for the future opportunities. This is why I love watching the World Cup.

Took the kids out see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom yesterday. I made the mistake of taking the first-row seats, which were the only spaces available. It is now Sunday afternoon and I still have a headache from yesterday. The cause was probably the lack of sleep in the past several nights, which I stayed up late to work on my Vietnamese Typography. Needless to say, I did not enjoy the movie much. Although I do think this one is better than the previous one, which released a few years ago. The kids seemed to be fine. They enjoyed popcorns and a big Hawaiian punch. Đạo had a bit of motion sickness as well and he suggested that we wait at least three days after a new release to go to the theater. I am definitely taking advice from a nine-year-old boy. I will never do this to myself again.

Hôm nay có hẹn. Chưa bao giờ tôi cảm thấy phấn khởi với những cuộc hẹn. Tôi mong từng phút từng giây để đi đến cuộc hẹn. Đúng vậy, tôi cần có cuộc hẹn như cần phép chữa bệnh. Tôi bị nghiện không thuốc chữa nhưng cũng không khó trị. Chỉ cần xin được hẹn.

Nếu nghĩ ra sớm với những cuộc hẹn thì đời đã tốt đẹp hơn nhiều. Nhưng có cách giải quyết thì tốt lắm rồi. Hy vọng đây là phương pháp vẹn toàn để đem đến cuộc sống lành mạnh. Ta vui trời đất cũng vui. Cám ơn những cuộc hẹn sôi động. Cám ơn người cho tôi những cuộc hẹn giá trị. Tôi đội ơn người rất nhiều. Hẹn gặp trong cuộc hẹn.

Right before midnight yesterday, I whipped out my credit card and purchased a web license of Exchange, designed by Tobias Frere-Jones. I have always wanted to feature Exchange in Vietnamese Typography and yesterday was a good time to buy for a good cause. As I was reading P. D. Eastman’s Are You My Mother? to my two-year-old son for the hundredth time, I kept thinking about those kids who are separated from their mothers. I could barely get through this part:

“Oh, you are not my mother,” said the baby bird. “You are a Snort. I have to get out of here!”

But the baby bird could not get away. The Snort went up.

It went way, way up. And up, up, up went the baby bird.

But now, where was the Snort going?

“Oh, oh, oh! What is this Snort going to do to me? Get me out of here!”

Just replace Snort with ICE and this is what happening in America. The world will never forget how the forty-fifth president and Republicans are mistreating children. They are taking away the kids’ parents.

Fourteen years ago, I took my little niece to see The Incredibles. I loved the story, but she seemed a little bored. Yesterday, I took my two older sons to see The Incredibles 2 in XD. They laughed the whole way through. They loved the actions as well as Jack-Jack. As for the story, The Incredibles 2 is all about feminism and power. Dad stays home to watch the kids while mom goes out to save the world. Mrs. Incredible has it all: the neatness her husband lacked, three fantastic kids, elastic power, and a Kardashian booty.
