Bien Dong

Xuan Cuong’s Bien Dong is a well-written drama feature. The storyline is moving and the performances are implausible. Especially Thu Ha, she gave a touching speech near the end. Kim Cuong and Nguyen Chanh Tinh also did a wonderful job of bringing out their characters. With a clever screenplay and an exhilarating key performance, Bien Dong remains on your mind after watching the film. I wish the Vietnam movie industry should make movies like this, a powerful tale of crime, justice and greed.

Beautiful Man

Venus is a piece of artwork that caused some controversial at Vassar. Here is an issue that could debate on and on. I wanted to put in my 2 cents on their site about the work but after reading a few comments, I rather just write my comments here than getting involve. I can see why the head of the Woman Studies department were offended by the work. However, when I look at a work of art, I do not let my personal opinion interferes with the work. Instead, I focused on the aesthetic experience. It doesn’t matter if the Venus is a male or female. He/she is both beautiful in term of the form, colors, strokes and shades. It’s all about the aesthetic experience. What is your take on this one?

Bui Doi: Life Like Dust

Tuong lai la nha tu (The future is prison)
Hien tai la chem giet (The present is killing)
Qua khu la han thu (The past is hatred)

Bui Doi (Dust Life) is a short documentary about Ricky Phan, a young Vietnamese kid, who came to California when he was 13 and became involved with the Vietnamese gang. The film takes viewers through the lifestyle of Bui Doi which includes smoke, drink, party, sex, rob, fight, etc.

It was extremely hard for young foreign kids to deal with pressure at school. We did not speak English. We were being discriminated and hated by White, Black, Spanish and even other Asian kids who were born in the US. That what I hate the most, your own race acted like they don’t even fucking know you. They were too busy playing their White friends and too good to be your friends. These fucking Bananas (yellow outiside, white inside) must be saying to their White friends, “I don’t know that fucking immigrant.” These kind of pressures made kids like Ricky Phan to bond and form a gang. They can speak their own language and no one else fuck with them.

The film did a good job of portraying the real life of the Vietnamese gangs, however; the title is misleading. It should be Du Dang (gangster) instead. Bui Doi refers to people in Viet Nam who have no home. That’s why they live a life like dust. In the documentary, they refer themselves as Bui Doi. Yet, they live in a big ass house with cars and plenty of food and beer. That’s not a dust life. That’s a gangster life. So get it right. Damn it.

Cho Blows

Didn’t know Margaret Cho but I rented Notorious Cho after reading several racist hate mails toward her. Apparently, she was attacked for the remarks she made recently on MoveOn.org about the Bush Administration. Saw the clip, it was nothing serious so I would like to find out if she is truly talented or just a fat bitch with a bad mouth. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with Notorious Cho. Her jokes are simply trashy. Talking about shit in her ass is nasty. Joking about straight men on period is childish. Mocking your mama’s Chinese accent might be funny towards American but I find it annoying. Maybe they are laughing at her not with her. I didn’t find any of her jokes funny at all.

Curvaceous

Hip-hop has mad influenced on the way we look at ass. Turn on MTV or BET, bootylicious is everywhere on hip-hop videos. Thanks to J-Lo, every woman is now backing that ass up. So what happen if you don’t have an ass to back up? No need to worried, ass jobs are getting as popular as boob jobs. The advantage of having an ass job is to remove access fat from stomach, thigh, and back then reinvests it back into the butt checks where the fat should be so you will end up with a bubble ass. It’s a win/win situation. However, an ass job is not cheap (much more than a blow job for sure). It could cost up to 400k, according to Vibe magazine. Damn, I am in the wrong profession. I should become an ass doctor instead. All I need is an ass job a year. It doesn’t sound right, does it?

Anyway, I still prefer the proportional type with slim waste and some nice details. I don’t need a big ole butt. Something like these chicks is more than what I can wish for. Yeah! Those chicks are: Minh Tuyet, Ha Vy and Tam Doan performing Lien Khuc Dan Ca (Traditonal Music with new beats). They are my type of babes. Check them out!

Charlies Brown’s Hey Ya!

Spotted this groovie video a couple weeks ago but when I went back, it was taken down because of the threaten lawsuit from Peanuts. Today I am so happy to come across it again. I just have to download it on my hard-drive to watch it over and over again. Just can’t get enough of that butterfly break-down from Charlie. It’s simply “ice cold.”

Climbing Higher

I picked up Montel Williams’s Climbing Higher because I want to learn more about Multiple Sclerosis, an evil disease that took away my lovely Ngoc Lan. The more I learn about MS, the more respect I have for Ngoc Lan. As a delicate woman, she was quietly suffering through the torturing of MS for quite a long time. From what I have learned from this book, MS is very painful. Even Montel Williams, a strong man who lifts weight everyday, wanted to commit suicide a couple of times to end the misery. He describes the pain on his feet as walking on burning coal.

Climbing Higher not only talks about MS but also lets readers get intimate with Montel William, one of the successful talk show in America. This is his personal story and he is sharing it to the public. How he deals with MS, his marriage, his children, his sexuality, etc. How MS controls his brain, his body and even his penis. He tells you every details how MS makes his life a living hell.

The inspiration aspect of the book is how Montel Williams moves from negative to positive. Instead of putting that bullet through his brain to let MS wins, he is fighting the sucker till the end. He sees MS as a blessing instead of a deadly disease. He is encouraging people to fight MS by setting up Montelms.org. Please support the foundation by donate money or buy this book (a portion goes to the foundation) to find a cure for MS.

Update

VisualGUI migrated to a new home. It is also upgraded from B2 to WordPress. I will be manually republishing some of the older posts from the old B2. So don’t be surprise if you see many posts in one day. Sorry if I am breaking any links.
