“Now’s The Time”

Highlight of today’s jam session was the bebop-blues “Now’s The Time.” The student trumpeter once again showed his skill not only on the solo, but also on accompanying the vocalists. When the vocalist got lost, he picked her up. As the instrumentalists played, the singers came up and put in a scat. The cool-looking vocal instructor dropped a fantastic improvisation. Then the student pianist also played the heck out of a blues solo. It was such a fantastic vibe. What made the jam session a success was still the encouragement to come up and not just try but do it.

Anyway, here is Sonny Stitt, J.J. Johnson and H. McGhee’s rendition of “Now’s the Time.”
