Ski Lesson Checklist

Part 1: Introduction and Ski Drills

  1. Intro, learn names
  2. Check for any boot pain
  3. Go over the equipment
  4. Explain athletic stance
  5. Boot exercises
  6. One ski
  7. Both skis

Part 2: Sliding

  1. Straight runs
  2. Gliding wedge
  3. Braking wedge
  4. Repeat until they can stop at will and be safe

Part 3 – Up the Lift and First Turns

  1. Riding chairlift
  2. First Turns
  3. Coach, coach, coach (stance, looking ahead, hands in front of hips, knees/ankles flexed shin to tongue)
  4. J-Turns, link turns, ski to bottom
  5. Use terrain-based features when available
  6. Summarize and debrief
